Help Shape Next Local Plan for Bromley

Every borough produces a Local Plan, which lasts five years and details how a borough will deliver local housing. The Local Plan is the primary planning document for the borough and encompasses policies on housing, employment, and the natural environment, including the Green Belt, as well as numerous other areas. It is different from the London Plan, which is produced by the Mayor of London. The London Plan sets each borough a housing target and sets out planning policies such as attitudes towards parking facilities in new developments, and what land can be built on, such as parks and green spaces.

Both Bromley’s Local Plan and the London Plan are due to expire, and new plans are being produced. As part of that process, Bromley Council is conducting a Local Plan review to ensure that the Borough’s social, environmental and economic priorities are considered in the context of wider national and London-wide planning policy.

The Direction of Travel Consultation is the next stage in Bromley’s Local Plan review, which seeks views on the draft vision and objectives as well as the preferred policy direction for a range of Local Plan topics. 

Anyone wishing to participate can read the Direction of Travel document and other supporting materials online and take part in the consultation at: bromley.gov.uk/planning-policy/review-bromley-local-plan.

Key documents are also available in the borough’s libraries, and by appointment at Bromley Civic Centre.

The nine-week consultation runs until Friday, 26 September 2025.
